Not long ago a CEO of a major Industry Blog Network had noted that the good natured, community feel was dwindling and this was understood to be a natural evolution but the changes were of concern. Indeed, this CEO is right to be of concern, but why does this happen in such large groups, as it is common in any large group of humans off or online.

Henry Kissinger in one of his famous 1960 essays, discussed the problems with the United Nations as more and more Nation-States join in, the differences of opinions and cultures so very that chaos ensues, he indicated that slower growth should be desired because it allowed for time to bring cohesion.

The reason I note this is that I see similarities to these examples and those at ActiveRain, a popular real estate industry blog. For instance at ActiveRain there are number of different real estate fields represented, not just real estate agents and brokers. Here is a quick list in case you forgot, these are the profile categories:

  • Loan Officers,
  • Mortgage Companies,
  • Appraisers,
  • Inspectors,
  • Title Companies,
  • Escrow Companies,
  • Builder Contractors,
  • Real Estate Trainers,
  • Real Estate Auctioneers,
  • Virtual Assistants,
  • Account Executives,
  • Mortgage processors,
  • Insurance Brokers,
  • Home Stagers,
  • Real Estate Attorneys,
  • Notaries,
  • Commercial Real Estate Folks,
  • Environmental Services,
  • Commercial Lenders,
  • Business Brokers,
  • Property Management People,
  • Real Estate Sales People - that are not agents,
  • Architectural Planners,
  • Financial Planners
  • Real Estate "Others"

Now then, within all these groups there will be a wild different of the real estate industry. In fact, I have noticed a huge difference from those of us involved in commercial real estate and those involved in purely residential. Then the differences between mortgage brokers and real estate agents is often diverse, especially since the blame game started over the subprime fallout. Inspectors, architects, financial planners, real estate attorneys, virtual assistance, coaches, etc. well all I can say is wow, what a huge and challenging, even outright exciting experiment.

At Active Rain, they call it a community, yet also allow folks to sub-divide, and self-segregate. Basically, it looks a lot like Los Angeles, and it works, "Amazing" and that is a credit to its leadership and the quality of folks at ActiveRain Corp.

Now then, there seems to be a need to increase the rules and regulations of blogging on this site and set up a more PC direction. This is interesting in that a new popular group here has just been set up called; "The Silent Majority" and there are several groups that are not so PC, such as the "comedy club" at times.

Too, we must realize that with Sitcoms, Political Attack Ads, Presidential Debates, Talking Point TV News, Jerry Springer, Soaps, Radio Talk Shows and Reality TV shows and re-runs that folks are bombarded by negative human nature. It is the sound and fury that gives them purpose - So, with all this brain washing is it really any doubt some folks bring all that here? Its what humans do, they are indeed a fascinating behavioral case study and this site is too.

All-in-all it is a pretty mellow community considering the wildness of the real estate market currently. I am indeed, impressed and have even invited others to join, something I would never have done in any other social network, but one feels more at home here at ActiveRain for some reason, why do you suppose that is?
