The activities of Domain Brokers have been on the increase in recent times.
There is no doubt that there are good domain brokers such as sedo, afternic and a host of others.
But there are times a domain owner would want to sell his domain directly without using a domain broker, most especially penny domains or if you receive a mail from a buyer for a domain not listed with a broker.
One naked fact is that the activities of domain traffickers who would want to steal your domain is on the increase and so the following must be taken into consideration if a domain owner is going to sell his domain directly to a buyer.
1. Know the identity of who your buyer is: Knowing the identity of who you are selling to is important. Some emails from "prospective buyers" could be scam. You must therefore need to search for the existence of such names and their email on google and you will know if such is scam from your search.
2. Instant Payment System: You must try to use Instant payment systems such as paypal and egold. Do not authorise transfer of a domain if you have not receive payment. If you are receiving check or wire transfer payments, do not transfer untill you receive your payment.
3. Do not appraise domain from buyer's link: Cases abound where "domain scammers" would send a link from a third party domain appraiser asking you to click there to appraise domain. This is just an old trick for them to get their affiliate payment from your appraisal fee as they are not interested in buying your domain. what you need to do here is to look for appraisal services yourself and appraise and send the certificate to your buyer.
Following the above simple strategies will give you your earnings if you want to sell your domain alone.
